Goulash

Goulash, in it's purest form, is a Hungarian stew with meat and vegetables. I will admit that I've never had "real" goulash. However, I've had what my grandmother makes and calls goulash since I was old enough to hold a spoon, and that's what I'll be posting about here.

This dish belongs in the same category with peas, cornbread, & taters: country food epitomized. It's one of those that brings an instant look of contentment across my husband's face! It never ceases to amaze me how I can spend hours preparing the (to me) yummiest dish ever, which he eats happily but never says a word about. Then I throw together a pot of goulash and he doesn't get the first bite swallowed before he's saying, "Mmmm...good stuff" out the side of his mouth.

So if you are like my husband and have a deep appreciation for simple, hearty, country food, I think you'll like this number.
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 med. potatoes, cut into small cubes
  • 1 15.5 oz. can white beans (or 2 cups)
  • 1 15 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 TBS Worcestershire
Brown ground beef with onion. Drain if needed. Add in potatoes, beans, tomato sauce, water, garlic powder and Worcestershire. Cook on low-med heat until potatoes are tender. Serve over homemade cornbread.

Enjoy!
Em

Yours recipe looks good. I always thought goulash had noodles in it though... The country goulash I made last night did anyways. But I think my DH would like potatoes better. I'll have to try this sometime.. Keep the recipes comming I visit often when creating my menus! Thanks!
